We cannot fathom the status of Hazrat Sayyidah Fatimah Az-Zahra (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) and how beloved she was to Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Hereunder we will attain a glimpse of her unique and extraordinary life and In Sha Allah it will increase the love in our hearts for the beloved daughter of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).

Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) was the youngest daughter of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and she was his most beloved daughter. Allama Ibn Jauzi (Rahmatullah Alaih) states that she was born 5 years before the announcement of Prophethood. [Zarqaani]

Bukhari and Muslim Shareef narrate a Hadith in which Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Fatimah is a flesh from within me. Whosoever infuriates her has infuriated me. Whatever displeases her displeases me and whatever hurts her, hurts me.” [Mishkaatul Masaabeeh]

According to the famous narrations, Sayyidah Fatimah’s (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) marriage was with Hazrat Ali (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) and took place in 2AH when she was eighteen years old. It is narrated that Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) and Hazrat Umar (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) requested in the court of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) permission to marry Sayyidah Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) but Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) did not accept their proposal. Thereafter Hazrat Ali (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) requested permission to marry the youngest daughter of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) which he accepted and performed their Nikah. The dowry in the marriage agreement was 400 mitqaal (a unit of measurement) of silver. [Fataawa Razaviyyah]

As a bridal gift to his beloved daughter, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) gave a wooden bed and a leather mattress which was filled with the leaves of date palm trees rather than cotton. He also gave her a bottle of musk, two grinds and two earthen pots. [Seeratus Sahaabiyaat]

Prior to the marriage Hazrat Ali (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) resided in the house of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and when there was a need for a new house after marriage, Hazrat Haritha Ibn Nu’maan Al-Ansaari (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) gave one of his houses to Hazrat Ali (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh). When Sayyidah Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) moved to her new dwelling, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) arrived at her home and sought permission from the outside before entering the house. Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ordered that water be placed in a utensil and when the water arrived, he placed both his blessed hands in it and sprinkled the water upon the arms and chest of Hazrat Ali (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh). Thereafter he called his beloved daughter and sprinkled her similarly and told her that the best person in their family was married to her. [Khutbaat-e-Muharram]

In spite of being the daughter of the best of all creation (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) ran all her domestic affairs with her own hands. She would sweep the ground by herself, grind the corn etc. by herself and fill water in the pot and carry it without any assistance which resulted in the development of spots on her hands as well as corns on the skin of her body. Once a maid and a servant were part of the war booty. Nervously, Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) approached Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and requested in his court that there was a need for a maid in her house for assistance in domestic affairs and she showed him the spots on her hands. Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to her that the orphans of Badr were more worthy than her of possessing the maid and servant. [Seeratus Sahaabiyaat]

In another narration, it is stated that when Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) requested domestic assistance, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) swore by Allah Ta’ala that he could not provide her with a servant or a maid whilst the Ahl-us-Suffah were tying stones around their stomachs due to the severity of hunger. [Barakaate Aale Rasool ]

Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Fatimah is the leader of the women of Jannah.” [Bukhari Shareef ]. Allamah Nabhaani (Rahmatullah Alaih) states that many scholars state that Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) is the most virtuous woman in the universe and even  more virtuous than Hazrat Mariam (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha). It is narrated by Hazrat Ibn Abdul Birr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) that Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), “My daughter, are you not pleased that you are the leader of the universe’s women?” She then asked, “My Father, where is Mariam (in terms of status)?” Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “She was the leader of the women of her time.”

Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) narrates that on the day of Judgement a caller shall call out, “O people of the congregation! Bow your heads and lower your gazes until Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) passes the bridge of Siraat.” She shall then pass the bridge in the company of seventy thousand maids from the heavenly virgins like the speed of lightening. [Sawaa’iq Muharraqah]

Imaam Nisaai (Rahmatullah Alaih) narrates that Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Indeed my daughter, Fatimah is a heavenly nymph in a human form. She has never menstruated.” [Ash-Sharf-ul-Mu’abbad]

Imam Jalaaluddeen Suyuti (Rahmatullah Alaih) has mentioned that one of the specialities of Sayyidah Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) is the fact that she never experienced menstruation. When she would give birth to a child, the postpartum period (Nifaas) would only last a few minutes and thus she would not miss a Salaah. This is why she was named ‘Az-Zahra’. [Khasaa’is‑ul-Kubra]

One day when Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) felt hungry, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) placed his blessed hand on her chest. After that moment, she never felt hunger. Another speciality of Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) is the fact that when the time of her demise came, she bathed and advised that no one should expose her. Hazrat Ali (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) therefore buried her without bathing her again. [Barakaate Aale Rasool ]

The demise of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) from this world was an extremely traumatizing event in the life of Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha). She had never been seen laughing after that day. Six months after the demise of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Hazrat Fatimah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) passed away during the night on Tuesday 3rd Ramadan 11 AH and was buried in Jannatul Baqi. Her demise was the physical manifestation of the prophecy of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as he had informed her that the first person to meet him from his family would be her. [Khutbaat-e-Muharram]

May Allah Ta’ala grant us utmost love and respect for the family of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), especially his most beloved daughter Sayyidah Fatimah Zahra (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), Ameen.
